And THEN What Happened? - 1974 - 2003 is Rosie McGee’s sequel to her photographic memoir, Dancing with the Dead - 1964 to 1974, in which she told of her life with the Grateful Dead during their first decade as a band and illustrated it with 200 photos. At the end of THAT book, we see Rosie leaving the Bay Area to follow her heart to Taos, New Mexico.
In THIS book, illustrated with 175 photos, she continues the stories of her non-traditional life after (she thought) she’d left the Dead behind.
From a craft cooperative in Taos; to a converted lifeboat in Sausalito; to a school bus in the mountains; to a house in a suburban cul-de-sac; to a dorm room at the Grand Canyon—and coming back to the Grateful Dead scene years later—Rosie’s optimism and adaptability helped her overcome many obstacles to living a quiet and peaceful life.
In this book, Rosie shares her personal journey, sometime into - and then out of - dire circumstances; but always moving forward with a wry sense of humor and the belief that things will always work out.
