ABOUT ROSIEMCGEE.COM
WELCOME!
HISTORY OF ROSIEMCGEE.COM
I launched rosiemcgee.com in 2001 to facilitate the sale of my Grateful Dead photos as prints. I’d been licensing their use in books as early as David Gans/Peter Simon’s “Playing in the Band” in 1986, and Jerilyn Brandelius’ “The Grateful Dead Family Album” in 1989. But people wanted to order prints, so I launched this website.
By 2010, my photos had appeared in dozens of books, films, and elsewhere, and the Dead’s audience had grown to legendary numbers. In 2012, things took a dramatic turn when I self-published, “Dancing with the Dead–A Photographic Memoir”. My life would never be the same.
I spent the next 10 years traveling, lecturing, vending, and building my business. My clunky-but-adequate website languished and gathered dust as I turned to social media for its ease of communication. Then I dumped my old website and launched this one.
In March 14, 2020, I did my last photo presentation and book signing at the library of Seaside, Oregon. They then shut down the library that day because of the pandemic, and all the bookings I had for the subsequent months up and down the West Coast got cancelled. My business income evaporated, and I was forced – like everyone else at the time – to stay isolated at home.
A year later, I committed to finally self-publishing the high-quality coffee table book of my Grateful Dead photos that I’d always dreamed of creating. From 2021 through half of 2024, that saga unfolded, funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, for which I will always be grateful. What a ride through the production, printing, selling, and shipping of my labor of love! In August of 2024, I sold the last copy of the second printing of, “My Grateful Dead Photos – 1965-1991”, and I don’t have plans for a third printing of the book.
As of November 2024, I still license my photos for use in books, films, magazines, album packaging, etc. I also sell prints and copies of my first book, “Dancing with the Dead–A Photographic Memoir”, still in print after 12 years. (Links at the Home Page tabs.)
I’m dedicated to keeping this version of rosiemcgee.com clean and simple, with easy navigation and thorough information the ultimate goal. Thanks.
